Van Vleck, Jacob

Van Vleck, Jacob, Moravian minister, violinist, and organist; b. N.Y, 1751; d. Bethlehem, Pa., July 3, 1831. He was director of the Young Ladies’ Seminary at Bethlehem from 1790 to 1800. He was consecrated a bishop in 1815. Van Vleck was the first American-born Moravian to be active as a composer.
