Traxel, Josef
Traxel, Josef, German tenor; b. Mainz, Sept. 29, 1916; d. Stuttgart, Oct. 8, 1975. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Darmstadt. He made his operatic debut as Don Ottavio in Mainz in 1942. In 1946 he joined the Nuremberg Opera, and from 1952 he was a member of the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart; later taught at the Hochschule für Musik there. He also sang at Salzburg, Bayreuth, Berlin, Vienna, and Munich; toured North America as well. His operatic repertoire ranged from Mozart to Wagner; he was also a concert singer.
