Taubert, (Carl Gottfried) Wilhelm
Taubert, (Carl Gottfried) Wilhelm, German pianist, conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Berlin, March 23, 1811; d. there, Jan. 7, 1891. He was a pianopupil of Neithardt, later of L. Berger, and for composition, of Bernhard Klein. He appeared early as a concert player, and also taught music in Berlin. He became asst.conductor of the court orch. in 1831, then was Generalmusikdirektor of the Royal Opera, Berlin, from 1845 to 1848; also court Kapellmeister from 1845 to 1869; continued to conduct the court orch. until 1883. He conducted his 1st Sym. in Berlin at the age of 20 (March 31,1831).
