Schub, André-Michel
Schub, André-Michel, French-born American pianist; b. Paris, Dec. 26, 1952. He was taken to N.Y. as an infant and was taught piano by his mother; then became a pupil of Jascha Zayde. After attending Princeton Univ. (1968–69), he studied with Rudolf Serkin at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia (1970–73). In 1974 he won first prize in the Naumburg competition and in 1977 the Avery Fisher Prize; after winning first prize in the Naumburg competition in 1981, he pursued an international career. His brilliant virtuoso technique is matched by a sensitive temperament; he shines in the Classic and Romantic repertoire.
