Scheidt, family of German singers, all siblings:
(1) Selma vom Scheidt , soprano; b. Bremen, Sept. 26, 1874; d. Weimar, Feb. 19, 1959. She was a pupil of Heinrich Böllhoff in Hamburg, and later of Theodor Bertram. In 1891 she made her operatic debut as Agathe in Elberfeld. After singing in Essen (1892–94) and Düsseldorf (1894–95), she appeared in Aachen, Bonn, and Berlin. In 1900 she joined the Weimar Opera, where she sang for some 25 years.
(2) Julius vom Scheidt , baritone; b. Bremen, March 29, 1877; d. Hamburg, Dec. 10, 1948. He made his operatic debut in Cologne in 1899, and sang there until 1916. After appearing at the Berlin Deutsches Opernhaus (1916–24), he sang at the Hamburg Opera (1924–30). He subsequently taught voice.
(3) Robert vom Scheidt , baritone; b. Bremen, April 16, 1879; d. Frankfurt am Main, April 10, 1964. He studied at the Cologne Cons. In 1897 he made his operatic debut at the Cologne Opera, singing there until 1903. From 1903 to 1912 he sang at the Hamburg Opera, and in 1904 at the Bayreuth Festival. He was a member of the Frankfurt am Main Opera from 1912 to 1940, singing in the premieres of Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten (1918) and Der Schatzgräber (1920), and of Egk’s Die Zaubergeige (1935).
