Priuli, Giovanni
Priuli, Giovanni , Italian organist and composer; b. Venice, c. 1575; d. Vienna, 1629. He was a pupil of Giovanni Gabrieli in Venice, for whom he served as substitute organist at San Marco. From about 1614 to 1619 he was Hofkapellmeister to Archduke Ferdinand in Graz, a position he continued to hold when his patron became Emperor Ferdinand II in 1619. He served the emperor until 1622. His sacred vocal music owes much to the influence of Gabrieli, and comprises 5 vols. (Venice, 1618–24). He also brought out 5 vols, of secular vocal music (Venice, 1604–25).
