Pirumov, Alexander
Pirumov, Alexander, Russian composer; b. Tiflis, Feb. 6, 1930; d. Moscow, July 20, 1995. He studied composition with Kabalevsky at the Moscow Cons. (graduated, 1956). He taught piano first at the music school attached to the Cons. (1956–62), then at the Cons. itself (1962–71; lecturer, from 1971). His Prelude and Toccata (1962) and Scherzo (1974) were required pieces for the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition.
