Peverara, Laura
Peverara, Laura, Italian singer; b. Mantua, c. 1545; d. Ferrara, Jan. 4, 1601. She was born into a wealthy merchant’s family. She gained distinction as a member of the prominent group of singing ladies in Ferrara (1580–98). Tasso dedicated numerous poems to her and 3 major musical anthologies were dedicated to her, II Lauro secco (Ferrara, 1582), II Lauro verde (Ferrara, 1583), and a MS collection.
