Petzoldt, Richard (Johannes)
Petzoldt, Richard (Johannes), German musicologist; b. Plauen, Nov. 12, 1907; d. Leipzig, Jan. 14,1974. He studied at the Univ. of Berlin, where his teachers were Abert, Schering, Moser, Sachs, Hornbos-tel, Schimemann, and Blume. He received his Ph.D. in 1933 with the diss. Die Kirchenkompositionen und weltlichen Kantaten Reinhard Keisers (publ, in Düsseldorf, 1935). He ed. the Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung (1935–39) and the periodical Musik in der Schule (1949–59). He was a prof, of music history at the Univ. of Leipzig (1952–67).
