Nixon, Marni (née Margaret Nixon Mc Eathron)

Nixon, Marni (née Margaret Nixon Mc Eathron), American soprano; b. Altadena, Calif., Feb. 22, 1930. She studied with Carl Ebert at the Univ. of Southern Calif, in Los Angeles, Jan Popper at Stanford Univ., and Boris Goldovsky and Sarah Caldwell at the Berkshire Music Center at Tangle wood. She pursued a multifaceted career; sang on the soundtrack of the films The King and I, West Side Story, and My Fair Lady, and also starred in her own children’s program on television; appeared in musical comedy and opera; was a soloist with major orchs. in the U.S. and abroad. She taught at the Calif. Inst. of the Arts (1969–71) and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara (from 1980).
