Nielsen, (Carl Henrik) Ludolf

Nielsen, (Carl Henrik) Ludolf, Danish violisi, conductor, and composer; b. Nrre-Tvede, Jan. 29, 1876; d. Copenhagen, Oct. 16, 1939. He was a pupil of V. Tofte (violin), A. Orth (piano), Bondesen (harmony), and O. Mailing and J.P.E. Hartmann (composition) at the Copenhagen Cons. (1896–98), and then was a violisi at the Tivoli and violisi and deputy conductor at the Palekoncerter. He won the Ancker stipend and traveled in Germany, Austria, and Italy (1907). He later played in the Bjrvig Quartet, and subsequently was conductor of the musical society Euphrosyne (1914–20). His music represents an expansive late Romantic style.
