Nielsen, Alice
Nielsen, Alice, American soprano; b. Nashville, Tenn., June 7, 1868?; d. N.Y., March 8, 1943. She sang in a church choir in Kansas City, then joined the Burton Stanley Opera Co., where she sang in operettas. She made her debut as a grand-opera singer in Naples as Marguerite in Faust (Dec. 6, 1903). She made her first American appearance in N.Y. (Nov. 10, 1905). In 1908 she toured with the San Carlo Co. in the U.S., and then achieved the status of a prima donna with the Boston Opera Co. (1909–13) and also sang concurrently with the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. She eventually settled in N.Y. as a singing teacher.
