Nataletti, Giorgio

Nataletti, Giorgio, Italian ethnomusicologist; b. Rome, June 12, 1907; d. there, July 16, 1972. He studied at the Pesaro Cons., then pursued ethnomusicological research in Italy, the Maritime Alps, and Tunisia (from 1926). He was technical director of Le Arti di le Tradizioni Popolari dellOND (ENAL) (1926–36; 1946–61) and secretary of the Comitato Nazionale delle Arti Popolari (1947–52). In 1948, with Pizzetti and others, he founded the Centro Nazionale Studi di Musica Popolare. In addition, he was active as broadcaster and music director of the RAI; also was artistic director of RCA Italiana and taught folk music (from 1940) and music history (from 1961) at the Rome Cons. With A. Lomax and D. Carpitella, he prepared the Italian section of The Columbia World Library of Folk and Primitive Music (vols. XV and XVI).
