Maistre, Jhan
Maistre, Jhan, French composer; b. c. 1485; d. c. 1545. He was in the service of the Ferrara court from about 1512 until 1543, serving as maestro di cappella for several years before his departure. Maistre was one of the earliest composers of madrigals. His motets reflect the influence of Josquin. Many of his works appeared in contemporary sources.
