Krug, (Wenzel) Joseph
Krug, (Wenzel) Joseph, German composer and conductor, known as Krug-Waldsee; b. Waldsee, Nov. 8, 1858; d. Magdeburg, Oct. 8, 1915. He developed precociously, entering the Stuttgart Cons, at 14 where he studied violin, piano, singing, and theory. After graduating in 1880, he went to Switzerland, where he was active as a teacher in Hofwyl. He then conducted a choral society in Stuttgart (1882–89) and then was chorus master in Hamburg (1889–92) and in Nuremberg and Augsburg (from 1894). He then lived in Magdeburg. He wrote several cantatas in a grand manner, 4 operas, chamber music, and songs.
