Kleinmichel, Richard, German pianist, conductor, and composer; b. Posen, Dec. 31, 1846; d. Charlottenburg, Aug. 18, 1901. He studied with his father, Friedrich Kleinmichel (1827–94), a bandmaster; then at the Leipzig Cons. (1863–66). He was made music director of the Leipzig Theater (1882), and later held similar posts in Danzig and Magdeburg. He wrote the operas Schloss de Γ Orme, after Prevosti Manon Lescaut (Hamburg, Oct. 8, 1883), and Pfeifer von Dusenbach (Hamburg, March 21, 1891) as well as 2 syms. and many piano pieces.
