Kleinknecht, Johann Stephan
Kleinknecht, Johann Stephan, German flutist, brother of Jakob Friedrich Kleinknecht and Johann Wolfgang Kleinknecht; b. Ulm, Sept. 17, 1731; d. Ansbach, after 1791. He studied philosophy and languages at the Ulm Gymnasium, and later received training in flute. In 1750 he joined his brothers in Bayreuth. After serving the bishop of Breslau, he returned to Bayreuth in 1754 to enter the service of the court. He remained in its service after it moved to Ansbach in 1769. Kleinknecht gained a notable reputation via his tours as a soloist throughout Europe.
