Karpath, Ludwig
Karpath, Ludwig (b Budapest, 1816; d Vienna, 1936). Austrian music critic and singer. Sang small bass roles with Nat. Opera Co., USA, 1886–8. Engaged by Mahler for bass roles at Budapest Opera 1889 but dismissed a few days later. On return to Vienna, became mus. critic of Neues Wiener Tageblatt 1894–1921. Wrote book on Wagner.
