Kallir, Lilian
Kallir, Lilian, Czech-born American pianist and teacher; b. Prague, May 6, 1931. She was taken as a child to the U.S., where she studied with Isabelle Vengerova and Herman de Grab at the Mannes Coll. of Music in N.Y. (1946–49). She won the National Music League Award and the American Artists Award of the Brooklyn Inst. of Arts and Sciences at 16. She made her debut as soloist with the N.Y. Phil, at 17; her recital debut followed at N.Y.’s Town Hall at 18; thereafter she toured widely in the U.S., South America, Europe, and Israel, appearing as soloist with orchs. and as a recitalist. She married Claude Frank in 1959, and subsequently appeared in duo recitals with him. She has also given concerts with her daughter,Pamela Frank. In 1975 she joined the faculty of the Mannes Coll. of Music.
