Hoyoul, Balduin
Hoyoul, Balduin, South Netherlands composer; b. Liège, 1547 or 1548; d. Stuttgart, Nov. 26, 1594. He was a choirboy at the Württemberg Hofkapelle in Stuttgart. After training under Lassus in Munich (1564–65), he returned to the Württemberg Hofkapelle as a singer and composer; from 1589 he was its Kapellmeister. His Latin motets were publ, as Sacrae cantiones for 5 to 10 Voices (Nuremberg, 1587) and his German motets were publ, as Geistliche Lieder und Psalmen for 3 Voices (Nuremberg, 1589). He also wrote 8 parody Magnificat settings based on works by Lassus.
