Grua, Carlo Luigi Pietro
Grua, Carlo Luigi Pietro, Italian composer; b. Florence, c. 1665; d. place and date unknown. He may have been the father of Carlo (Alisio) Pietro Grua. In 1691 he became an alto singer in the Hofkapelle of the Elector of Saxony in Dresden, where he served as vice-Kapellmeister in 1693-94, and where his opera Camillo generoso was premiered during Carnival 1693. In 1694 he was made vice-Kapellmeister of the Palatine court in Düsseldorf, where his opera Telegono was first performed during Carnival 1697. He retained his position until 1720, serving in Heidelberg after the Düsseldorf and Innsbruck musical establishments were combined and moved there. He also composed 2 operas for Venice: II Pastor fido (1721) and Romol e Tazio (1722). Among his other works were duets and sacred music.
