Goldsand Robert
Goldsand, Robert, Austrian-American pianist and pedagogue; b. Vienna, March 17, 1911; d. Danbury, Conn., Sept. 16, 1991. He studied piano with Moriz Rosenthal and Emil von Sauer, and theory and composition with Camillo Horn and Joseph Marx in Vienna. After making his debut at age 10 in Vienna, he toured throughout Europe and Latin America; at 16, he made his U.S. debut in a recital at N.Y’s Town Hall (March 21, 1927). In 1940 he settled in the U.S. and became a teacher at the Cincinnati Cons, while pursuing his concert career. From 1953 to 1990 he taught at the Manhattan School of Music in N.Y. He was best known for his judicious readings of the 19th-century repertory.
