Garaudé, Alexis (Adélaide-Gabriel) de
Garaude, Alexis (Adélaide-Gabriel) de, French singer and composer; b. Nancy, March 21, 1779;d. Paris, March 23, 1852. He studied theory under Cambini and Reicha, and singing under Crescentini and Garat. He was a singer in the royal choir (1808–30) and prof. of singing at the Cons. (1816–41). He publ. 3 string quintets, many ensemble pieces for violin, flute, clarinet, and cello, sonatas and variations for piano, a solemn Mass, and various vocal works, including vocalises, arias, duets, and songs. He also publ. a Methode de chant (1809, op.25; rev. ed. As Methode complete de chant, op.40), Solfege, on Methode de musique, Methode complete de piano, and L’Harmonie rendue facile, ou Theorie pratique de cette science (1835).
