Caesar, Johann Melchior

Caesar, Johann Melchior, German composer; b. Saverne, Alsace, c. 1648; d. Augsburg, Oct. 18, 1692. He received training in Saverne and at the Univ. of Würzburg. He served as cathedral Kapellmeister in Breslau (1667–79), Würzburg (1679–83), and Augsburg (from 1683). Among his works were masses, Psalms, and other sacred pieces, secular vocal music, and various dance suites.
