Caelifera
Caelifera (class Insecta, order Orthoptera) Suborder of grasshoppers whose antennae have fewer than 30 segments. The auditory organs, when present, are found on the sides of the first abdominal segment, and stridulation is usually produced by friction between the hind femora and either modified lateral veins on the fore wing, or areas on the abdomen. The ovipositor, when present, is short, and consists of four separate valves. There are eight families: Acrididae; Cylindrachetidae; Eumastacidae; Pneumoridae; Proscopiidae; Pyrgomorphidae; Tetrigidae; and Tridactylidae.
