American suffrage leader and lawyer. Born Inez Milholland on August 6, 1886; died in Los Angeles, California, on November 25, 1916; graduated from Vassar College, 1909; attended law school at New York University; married Eugene Boissevain (a Dutch electrical engineer), in 1913.
Inez Milholland Boissevain graduated in 1909 from Vassar College where she was prominent in athletics and championed radical social ideas. During a vacation, she went to England, joined suffragist Emmeline Pankhurst 's forces, and was arrested in a demonstration. In 1912, she entered the Law School of New York University, a year before her marriage to Eugene Boissevain, a Dutch electrical engineer. During the next three years, Boissevain's enthusiasm and ability as a speaker and organizer made her invaluable to the Woman's Party, and there was deep regret upon her early death, at age 30, in Los Angeles, California, where she had been overtaken by illness during a speaking tour.
