Russian cross-country skier. Name variations: Raissa Smetanina. Born Feb 29, 1952, in Russia.

Won 10 winter Olympics medals: at Innsbruck, won gold medals for 10 km and 4 × 5 km relay and a silver medal for 5 km (1976); at Lake Placid, won a gold medal for 5 km and a silver medal for 4 × 5 km relay (1980); at Sarajevo, won silver medals for 10 km and 20 km (1984); at Calgary, won a silver medal for 10 km and a bronze medal for 20 km (1988); at Albertville, won a gold medal for 4 × 5 km relay (1992), the oldest woman to win a Winter gold.
