Smendzianka, Regina , Polish pianist and teacher; b. Torún, Oct. 9, 1924. She studied at the Pomerian Cons. in Torún, with Sztompka at the Torún Cons., and with Drzewiecki at the Kraków State Coll. of Music (1945–48). After making her formal debut as soloist with the Kraków Phil, in 1947, she toured widely in Europe, the U.S., and the Far East. In 1964 she joined the faculty of the Warsaw Academy of Music, where she later was rector (1972–73) and a prof. (from 1977). Her exhaustive repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary composers.
