American entrepreneur. Born Alice Sheets, Oct 19, 1907, in Salt Lake City, Utah; died April 17, 2000, in Washington, DC; graduate of University of Utah, 1927; m. J. Willard Marriott, 1927; children: J.W. Marriott Jr. and Richard.
With husband, co-founded and built the hotel empire, Marriott Corporation, which was originally a ninestool root beer stand in Washington DC; served 2 terms on board of John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts; was vice chair of Republican National Committee (1965–76).
