New Zealand writer. Name variations: Emilie Monson Wilton. Born Emilie Monson Wilton, c. 1829 or 1830, in England; died June 10, 1905, in Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand; dau. of Colonel Wilton (retired British army officer); m. Neill Malcolm (barrister), 1848 (died 1898); children: 10.
Immigrated to New Zealand (1851); following failed farming ventures, established homestead with family on abandoned property, petitioning government to survey and grant title to it; when petitions were ignored and property was included in allotment for new settlers, was finally allowed to purchase homestead; published pamphlet based on her diaries, My Own Story.
