English mycologist. Born 1908 in UK; died Feb 5, 1991.
Appointed the 1st mycology professor in Britain (University of Bristol, 1965–73) and the 1st woman dean of Faculty (of Science) at University of Bristol (1970–73); studied plant physiology at University of Reading (BS and MS) and University of Manchester; studied mycology at Imperial College, London, on a grant (1932); helped set up Honours School of Microbiology; advocated study of biological sciences as part of BEd degree programs; retired (1973) and appointed emeritus professor. Writings include Fungi-An Introduction (1966).
