Australian prime-ministerial wife. Born Mary Turner, 1863 in Chesterton, Staffordshire, England; died Sept 24, 1950, in Bellevue Hill, Sydney, Australia; m. Joseph Cook (prime minister of Australia, 1913–14), 1885; children: 9.

Taught school for 8 years; migrated with husband to Australia (1891); active with the Parramatta electorate, the New South Wales branch of the Australian Red Cross, and Australia's High Commission in London; promoted the nation's produce and advocated British women's emigration to Australia. Named Dame of the Order of the British Empire (DBE, 1925).
