Cook, Robin

Cook, Robin (1946) British statesman, foreign secretary (1997–2001), leader of the House (2001–2003). He entered Parliament in 1974, and held various posts (1987–97) in Labour's shadow cabinet. As foreign secretary, Cook sought to promote a greater ethical dimension to British foreign policy. He strongly supported NATO action in Kosovo in 1999. In 2003, he resigned in protest at the US and UK led war in Iraq.
