Atkinson, Eudora Clark (1831–?)

American state-reformatory superintendent. Born Dec 20, 1831, in Andover, Massachusetts.

Served as the 1st superintendent of the Massachusetts Reformatory for Women in Sherborn (the 1st reformatory in the country solely for women prisoners) which opened in 1877; after contending with overcrowding and understaffing, resigned amid public disappointment in her performance (1880). Now located in Framingham, the facility was renamed the Reformatory for Women (1911).
