écarté

écarté (ā´kärtā´), card game similar to euchre, played by two persons. The pack has 32 cards, seven through ace in each suit; the king is the highest card, and the ace ranks below the jack and above the ten. A trick is won by the higher trump or by the higher card of the suit led. The object of play is primarily to win three tricks.
