Third World entrepôt A term with three distinct (though similar) meanings: originally, a port used by colonial powers to deposit goods which were eventually destined for sale elsewhere; sometimes used to describe cities which receive migrants from less developed countries; often applied to cities or regions, usually in the poorer states, with a large commercial sector geared mainly to exporting primary products from the hinterland.
