Dositheus of Pelusium

fl. c. 230 b.c.

Greek mathematician who succeeded Conon of Samos (c. 280-c. 220 b.c.) as director of the mathematical school at Alexandria. It appears that Dositheus studied under Conon, and after his teacher's death replaced him as head of the school. Archimedes (c. 287-212 b.c.) had earlier carried on a correspondence with Conon, and continued to do so with Dositheus, to whom he dedicated at least four treatises.
