Stephanoberycidae (pricklefish; subclass Actinopterygii, order Beryciformes) A small family of deep-sea fish which live at depths of more than 1500 m. They are small (15 cm) had have large eyes and a large mouth. Although the fins have no spines, the rough-edged scales give the fish a prickly appearance. There are three species.
