Rhaphidophyceae (Chloromonadophyceae) A small class of unicellular algae which are sometimes considered to be members of the Xanthophyta; they are alternatively regarded as protozoa, class Phytomastigophora. The cells are typically flagellated with two flagella, a forward-pointing tinsel type and a backward-pointing whiplash type. They are found in mud at the bottom of freshwater ponds, etc.
