Poecilosclerida (class Demospongiae, subclass Ceractinomorpha) An order of sponges which have a skeleton of spicules, or organic fibres, or both. The dermis is often very specialized, as are the spicules and their arrangement. Many spicules are cemented together. This is a very large order which first appeared in the Cambrian.
