Oxyaena (order Creodonta, family Oxyaenidae) A Lower Eocene, wolverine-like carnivore, which was one of the most powerful predators of its time and probably was the ancestor of Patriofelis, which was the size of a bear, and of Sarkastodon, which was much larger even than that. It is known from N. America and E. Africa.
