Salmoniformes (subclass Actinopterygii, superorder Protacanthopterygii) An order of bony fish that have a single dorsal fin which, like the pelvic fins, is placed half-way along the body or further to the back of the animal. The order incorporates some 24 families, including e.g. the Salmonidae, the Esocidae, and Osmeridae.
