Drude, CarlGeorgOscar (1852–1933)A German botanist and biogeographer, who described vegetation types in terms of formations. He published many works, including Handbuch der Pflanzengeographie (1890) and Oekologie der Pflanzen (1913), and collaborated with H. E.Engler to produce Die Vegetation der Erde, which began publication in 1896. Drude was professor of botany and director of the botanic garden at the University of Dresden.
