CREATION, ARTICLES ON
Under "creation" fall several topics: the origin of the world, the relation between the world as created and God, the end for which the world was created, and the original condition of man. The principal article is cre ation, which treats of creation both in Scripture and in theology. The scriptural account is treated in genesis, book of; adam; eve; and paradise. Several articles discuss the relation between Scripture and the scientific theories of the origin of the world: see evolution; creationism; monogenism and polygenism. Philosophy contributes certain key concepts to the theological understanding of creation: see, e.g., motion, first cause of; efficient causality; final causality; soul, human, origin of; matter, philosophy of (see also matter, theology of). On the original condition of man, see original justice; for further articles on this topic as well as on the place of man in creation, see man, articles on. The end of God in creating is dealt with in glory of god (end of creation).
On the creation of spiritual beings other than man, see angelology; angels.
