Asher b. Jehiel

Asher b. Jehiel/ Asher Yehiʾel (also known as ‘ Asheri’ and ‘ Rosh c.1250–1327). Jewish Talmudic authority. After the imprisonment of his teacher, Meir of Rothenburg, he became the leader of the German Jewish community, but later fled from Germany and became rabbi of Toledo. He encouraged the Spanish leaders to support Solomon Adret's ban on the study of philosophy for those under the age of 25, and his responsa were hugely influential throughout Europe.
