Tshwane, City of
City of Tshwane, metropolitan municipality (2011 pop. 2,921,488), Gauteng prov., NE South Africa. Pretoria is the municipal seat; other communities include Soshanguve, Mamelodi, Mabopane, and Centurion. The City of Tshwane was established in 2000, incorporating 13 former city and town councils. Primarily an administrative center, Tshwane also has an iron and steel industry and automobile assembly plants. Pretoria also is the administrative capital of South Africa.
