Christophe Léon Louis Juchault de Lamoricière (krēstôf´ lāôN´ lwē zhüshō´ də lämôrēsyĕr´), 1806–65, French general. Important in the conquest of Algeria, he distinguished himself at the head of his celebrated Zouaves and received (1847) the submission of Abd al-Kader. He was active in French politics after the February Revolution of 1848, but his opposition to Napoleon III led to his banishment (1852). In 1860, as commander of the papal army, he was routed by a superior Piedmontese force.
