Barrow, Dean Oliver
Dean Oliver Barrow, 1951–, Belizean political leader, prime minister of Belize (2008–), grad. Univ. of the West Indies (LL.B., 1973), Norman Manley Law School, Jamaica (1975), Univ. of Miami (LL.M, 1981; M.A., 1982). A member of the United Democratic party (UDP), he has served in the Belize House of Representatives since 1984 and has held several cabinet posts, including deputy prime minister, attorney general, and minister of foreign affairs and economic development. In 2008 he led the UDP to a landslide victory in the national elections and became prime minister; Barrow and the UDP remained in power after 2012 elections but with a reduced margin of victory.
