Panama, Tenants' Revolt
Panama, Tenants' Revolt
The Movimiento Inquilinario riots took place in Panama City between October 10 and October 13, 1925 as a result of a strike organized by tenants to protest rising rents and unsanitary conditions in many housing units. Four people died in clashes with the police on Saturday, October 10. By Monday the city was completely shut down as more people joined the strike. That day, at the request of a very nervous Panamanian government, three U.S. Army battalions entered the country. Two people were killed in confrontations with the soldiers. The U.S. troops remained in the country until October 23.
