Krauze, Enrique (1947–)
Mexican historian and intellectual Enrique Krauze Kleinbort is well known for his popular series of illustrated presidential biographies and for producing historical television programs marketed for the general public. Krauze has authored important historical books on Mexican intellectuals and presidents. His political essays in Vuelta and Letras Libres often provoke critical discussion.
Born September 16, 1947, in the Federal District, Krauze, the son of a printer, graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with an engineering degree and earned a PhD from the Colegio de México. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for 1979–1980. He collaborated closely with Nobel Prize winner Octavio Paz as managing editor and subdirector of Vuelta from 1976 to 1996, founded his own intellectual magazine, Letras Libres, in 1999, and directs his publishing firm, Editorial Clío. He became a member of the Mexican Academy of History in 1989, and the prestigious National College in 2005.
